Christopher Simmons
Written by Christopher’s wife Eva
At the age of 24 years old Christopher was arrested for first-degree armed robbery, where no one was physically harmed, and was sentenced to 20 and 25 running consecutive sentences. He has been incarcerated for 27 years. Since his incarceration, he has accepted responsibility and has made it a point in his life to be an asset to society and not a liability. Christopher always looks at life as if the glass is half full. He has accomplished so much and has made the best of his circumstances. He strives to be a positive example to the people he comes in contact with by using his time productively in helping others.
Christopher has earned his Associate's Degree and just graduated with his Bachelor’s in May 2023. For 14 years he was the President of the Caribbean & African Unity program, he was also the President of the Rastafarian program for 5 years. Within that time he was a Facilitator for the Alternative to Violence Program. Christopher taught and inspired Special Needs inmates with educational and daily life skills for 3 years, he proceeded to assist the Blind and Visually impaired for 18 years, He has been a Community Liaison for multiple elected times, and learned ASL Sign Language levels 1 and 2.
Christopher has an Exemplary Disciplinary Record and has the support of the Appellate Advocate who has written a letter on his behalf.
Last year Christopher was transferred to another facility, because he was at the prior facility for too many years.
This didn't stop him from helping others he continued to facilitate the Alternative to Violence Program and is also providing Transitional Service Readiness.
I stated Christopher's accomplishments, because it speaks volumes of who the man he is today.
He entered prison as a young man, and instead of giving up he continues to be a positive role model.
My husband and I know the importance of education to living a productive life.
Christopher has proven to his Mother that he was meant for better things, to his brother he has always given advice that is from the heart, to his niece who loves her uncle that she is a Queen, to his sister that he is always wanting the best for her, to his wife that Love is what's important and to his students he's inspired what it means to work hard and achieve your goals, but most importantly follow your dreams.
Christopher has served 70% of his sentence. He also survived Covid-19 in February 2020 but still experiences long-term effects from it. I ask for Clemency, because you are looking at a different man. A man who knows the value of family and of paying it forward, so that our youth live productive and successful lives.
Christopher is ready to come home and to continue to do amazing work in helping others. He will be an asset to society someone that I and so many can be proud of.
