Honoring Those We Have Lost

We mourn those who have passed inside New York State Correctional Facilities. Those who died from COVID-19, as well as the many who have lost their lives to death by incarceration. Governor Hochul now has the power to save lives.

Since NYS DOCCS began digitally recording in-custody deaths in 1976, 7,504 people have died behind bars, many awaiting a clemency decision or were denied. We mourn the passing of everyone who has died behind bars and honor their lives.
