Glen Smith

Written by Glen’s wife Lynne

Glen Smith was sentenced to 25 years with no chance of parole for kidnapping a woman in 2005. No weapon was involved and the alleged victim was not harmed in anyway. During the alleged abduction, she was in the driver's seat, engine running, while Glen was outside pumping gas and she didn't drive off. She also went in to the restroom alone and came back out and got in the car with him - with no prompting from Glen. In fact, during the trial, she changed her story 3 different times but Glen was still convicted of a violent felony - his first felony- and received 25 years. He has served 16 of those years in a maximum security prison. He obtained his GED and has worked in the law library, as a porter, and in the laundry, just to name of a few of the jobs he has done while incarcerated. In January 2021, fate dealt Glen another blow when his only child, Mitchel was killed in a motor vehicle accident. Glen was not permitted to attend his only child's funeral due to COVID restrictions and he has received no grief counseling. His mother is now elderly and not in great health. Glen also suffers from severe arthritis in his right hip due to a motorcycle accident in his youth and needs hip replacement. At this time, he receives no treatment for the chronic pain he is in. He also receives no treatment for the anxiety and mental health issues he deals with daily; there has been no help with the grief he is experiencing. Glen has had no infractions of violence and is generally well liked by the CO's and inmates alike. He has petitioned for clemency but to date has heard nothing back from the clemency board. We are begging for mercy. Glen was over sentenced and needs some relief. He needs to come home to be with his family, to receive proper medical and mental health treatment, and to enjoy what time he has left on this earth. He deserves a chance to get to know his grandson, the only thing he has left of his son. He is a good man who has been placed in a terrible situation. We ask that someone please rectify this miscarriage of justice and send Glen home.
