Kristian Hansen

Written by Kristian’s wife Caroline
My husband was sentenced to life without parole in 1996 after committing the ultimate crime. At the time, he was an uneducated, drug addicted teen. Since that horrible day, Kristian has since obtained his GED, associates degree and this August will graduate with his bachelors degree. Together we have two daughters, Caitlyn who is eleven and Grace who is 7. Kristian works with the youth assistance program in Sullivan Correctional Facility where he talks with teens who are headed down the same path he was on. He tries to show them there is another choice. Not a day goes by where Kristian wishes he made a better choice. My husband has worked as a clerk for the church for the past 16 years and has found a deep faith in the time he has spent incarcerated. Kristian spends his time playing sports and working out. He even broke the NYS weightlifting record twice. My husband has never received one single discipline ticket in the past 25 years. Kris has become an honorable man, one who his peers, supervisors and teachers can respect and even look up to in certain ways. I have applied for clemency for my husband four times and each time I have been denied since he doesn’t have a “minimum” sentence. Life without parole is a death by incarceration sentence. It is in humane to keep him incarcerated for the rest of his life. He deserves a chance to be the husband, father, son, brother and man he has worked so hard to become. He is no longer uneducated and no longer addicted to drugs. He is a model prisoner and a great man. Kristian deserves a shot at parole.
